Founded in 1519, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982. Old Havana is the finest example of Spanish colonial architecture filled with traditions, life, and the warmth of beautiful smiles and excitement. Two majestic fortresses once protected the city from pirates. Today they overlook the city’s wealth of museums, superb colonial buildings, legendary cobblestone streets, famous restaurants, historic hotels, theaters, the Capitolio, and cigar factories. It is truly the center of fine arts, music, rum, African heritage, vintage cars, and literature, including U.S.author Ernst Hemingway. The City’s Convention Bureau has the largest number and the greatest variety of international events (congresses, conventions, seminars), second only to Rio´s Buerau in the Americas.
