Christopher Columbus visited this site in 1942 and later it became the first town founded by Diego Velasquez in 1512. The city is at the southeastern tip of Cuba and the Guantánamo province and is best reached via the scenic and winding La Farola mountain road. The hills are filled with wildlife and the caves with Indian relics.
