For alternative ideas please go to other suggestions CUBA has several international airports. For the purpose of this suggested itinerary we shall use Havana as the point of entry. Day 1 – Arrive in HAVANA city. After Immigration and Customs, a local tour operator representative will provide a private transfer to your hotel. Depending on the time of arrival, rest of the day at leisure or a scheduled activity will be programmed. Day 2 – OLD HAVANA. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site. A walking tour allows you to appreciate the rich and varied architecture: Spanish and Moorish, with decorative ironwork and pastel facades, of which the Habana Blue is prominent. Stop at the Bodeguita del Medio and La Floridita, both well known for being favorite bars of Hemingway, the American novelist. Enjoy lunch at any of the local typical restaurants where the music is contagious and invites you into a state of happiness. Visit the Museum of Rumand Partagas Cigar factory. Day 3Granada luxury hotels – A half day visit to Finca Vigia, where Hemingway lived for 20 years. Time to admire his book collection of over 9,000 volumes, and his boat The Pilar. If children are in class at the local school, you will enjoy a mini-theatre presentation. Continue on a short trip to Cojimar, the fishing village described in The Old Man and the Sea and have lunch or dinner at famous La Terraza. Or return to Old Havana and admire the work of local and international artisans and their efforts to restore the beautiful buildings. This evening visit the Tropicana or the Parisien for a spectacular dinner-show! Day 4 – PINAR del RIO. Drive west of Havana and find the unique geological lime stone mountains “mogotes” adorning the tobacco plantations. Navigate the underground river in the caves and visit the orchid nursery in Soroa. This area is a true ecological paradise. Return to Havana in the evening. Day 5- SANTIAGO de CUBA. Welcome to the “Cradle of Revolutions” and the “Center of Culture”: arts, music, politics, religion, dance and history. Plan a visit during the Festival del Caribe, an annual event from the 3rd to the 9th of July. Everyday you will find some activity: Museum of the Carnival, Casa Diego Velasquez, Casa de la Trova, Casa de la Conga, Casa del Caribe, art galleries, sculptors, ceramicists. The “Santiagueros” will make sure you feel at home. Day 6 – SANTIAGO de CUBA. A visit to Cuban hero Jose Marti’s tomb is an opportunity to read selected statements written by Marti now engraved in columns surrounding his Mausoleum. The Cemetery is also the resting place of the Bacardi family. Drive to the mountainous copper mining area where the Basilica of The Virgen del Cobre is erected as a vivid reminder of the strong Catholic roots of the Cuban population. Time to observe a baseball game of the Little League of El Cobre. Some of the kids have already played in Japan and in the Dominican Republic. Visit some of the music clubs and join the locals in their dance and good times. Day 7 – SANTIAGO de CUBA.On this last day in the area, stop by local art galleries and have a chance to meet the artists and purchase their works. Visit the historic Fort of El Morro, which is high on a cliff where sunsets are colorful and romantic. Interested in learning about the influence of African religions in the Caribbean? A visit to the Casa del Caribe is a must. Evening return to Havana. Day 8 – HAVANA. Today make sure you have your souvenirs to take home. Private transfer to the Airport.
