Since its founding in 1774, Harford County has relied on the Office of Sheriff and its Deputies to provide an array of services to our citizenry. Other jurisdictions may rely on an appointed police chief, serving as a political appointee, whereas Harford County has found the position of a Sheriff more desirable. This undoubtedly stems from the fact that our Sheriff is directly elected by the citizens at large. Inherent in this arrangement has been a bid of confidence in the qualities, effectiveness, and overall performance of the agency. A well-operated Sheriff’s Office also tends to foster a closeness between the populace and the agency that is hard to replicate in a county police department type set-up. This November, Harford County will elect a new Sheriff and this is as important a position as any other county-wide public official. First-rate public safety, diligent crime reduction, efficient service of Court process, and effective Detention Center operation are all at stake. Joe Price is the “leader of choice” who looks forward to election as Harford County’s 80th Sheriff.
Joe Price brings to the table thirty years of law enforcement experience as well as the vision, expertise, dedication, and great integrity to get the job done. This is a big County and Joe believes in utilizing every resource, including enhanced inter-agency cooperation, to provide the best possible service to our residents. He enjoys the respect of criminal justice and law enforcement agencies, their personnel, and administrators not only here but throughout the state. These accolades have been earned rather than demanded or assumed.
A lifelong county resident, Joe truly understands the past history, present shortcomings, and future greater potential of the Sheriff’s Office and how it can better serve our citizens who, after all, foot the bill. They deserve nothing less than the best and Joe Price is the candidate who will deliver. After all, isn’t government really a “service provider” which should be run using sound “business” principles? We think so!
Joe recognizes the various "stakeholders" affected by the operation of the HCSO. Citizens need safe neighborhoods in which to live and play. Business owners seek safe environments in which to operate, attract patrons, and retain good employees. Visitors to our County enjoy our hospitality, friends, and mercantile businesses. Last but not least, our largest employer, Aberdeen Proving Ground, values its links to our County, its employee base, and the county and the town's governments. Joe knows that, under his watch, the HCSO will be ready to serve all the above.
