One Saturday we decide to find out if Evans Creek O.R.V. Area,in Washington, was fullsize friendly. It started with Gene, Ron, and myself (Mike) leaving Matlock. I called Scott and asked if he was up for a death ride? And Scott said of course! So he meet us along the way and the adventure began. The rig was a 1975 Blazer, no top, homemade snorkel, stock 1/2 axles with 308s, stock suspension, 350, sm465 & np205, and a sawzall body lift to fit 38inch superswampers. Boy did we get some looks from all the Jeep guys. We unload it from the trailer and change tires, at this point I said what about a spare? Gene says,"What do we need one of those for?", You can only guess what happened. Well we fire it off and down the trail we go. To start it off right I kissed a tree with Gene's side of the blazer for good luck. About 3/4 of the way through the trail, we start hearing air leaking. Yep, the tire had a hole in it and no spare! So we finish the trail, but the end of the trail is a mile from the truck. Didn't you bring a tire kit, you ask. We were smart enough to bring a jack isn't that good enough? So we drive it a mile or so back to the truck on a flat tire, borrow tire plugs and an air compressor from someone and fix it. Off to trail number two. We start following a friend of Gene's up the trail in a group. Well we're at the back of the pack and everybody kept looking to see if we were going to make it. I just said point the way and get out of our road. The Blazer performed flawless. The jeep guy got a whole new respect for a blazer that day. The third trail we took on our own, we had more tire problems and clutch linkage problem. We made it back on our own power because of a spare that we through in. The trails weren't that difficult just narrow in places. We went in a fullsize, came out a compact. |
